Deborah Besinger has loved writing since as early as she can remember. Being raised a good southern girl, it all started with writing proper Thank You notes. From there it progressed to letters to numerous pen-pals and friends, back when people actually wrote them on pretty paper with colored pens, then both the school and local community newspaper.
Deborah has had a lot of unique experiences in her 50 years of life. For many years, she was writing about her perspectives gained from living it and sent mass emails to hundreds of friends who would forward them on to their own friends. This was before the days of blogs, of course. One thing she heard over and over again is "You really ought to write a book." Every time she thought maybe she knew what to write about, life would throw her another curve ball.
Deborah says "It's a weird thing to be a writer and have a story you feel you must tell," but that's exactly how she felt when the words for her book, Bound and Gagged by Christianity and the Sins that Set Me Free, hit her. She says it hit her like a ton of bricks on the most arbitrary Thursday, and she could do nothing else until she got every word out. Then, she held her breath and wondered if other folks would also feel that her story needed to be told. When she was going through her existential crisis, she was hungry to find tales similar to her own as a guidepost, but never could. Whether you are having your own crisis, or just picked up her book or are reading her work because we are having a global pandemic and you're bored to death in your living room, she would be grateful and honored to keep you company for a few hours.
